Advanced Studio Lighting Course Jan 2014 – behind the scenes

I ran the first of our 2014 lighting courses on Sunday. There were 6 photographers in attendance and one great model ( Julie Burville ).
I’ll post some images from the course in the next few days, once the attendees have had some time to edit them. I did edit one composite to demonstrate the kind of thing we were trying to achieve, which I shall post below after the behind the scenes stuff.

We covered a lot on the course and everyone seemed to enjoy it and get a lot out of it. We started with how to shoot in a home studio set up, then moved onto shooting composite images. This was followed by some fashion lighting with lens flare ( quite interesting to see how different the results were with all the different camera/lens combinations ). We had a brief play with some motion blur shots ( not enough time to really go into depth with this though ) before we got the smoke machine and gels out for a spectacular final set which worked really well. After that it was time for a lunch break and then onto a few hours of post processing to finish off the day.

Here are a few behind the scenes images, I’ll add some more once the attendees get round to sending me some ( once I’ve photoshopped myself into a reasonable shape !).

Finally, one of my edits from the composite set.  I hardly took any photos on the day, as I wanted the people attending to get the majority of the time behind the camera, but I did manage to take a few snaps to cobble this together.
