So at the weekend I had another crack at shooting my son’s football ( soccer for any Americans reading ) match. I had briefly attempted it before but the weather was so cold it was unpleasant to shoot for more than a few minutes. It was a tiny bit warmer this weekend so I had more of a go at it. It was pretty good, using single point focus and burst mode the camera felt very responsive. About halfway through I remembered to expand my AF point to a decent size and suddenly it got a whole lot easier.
So, you may ask, why didn’t I just use my D800? Well, I had a slight hangover and was feeling lazy so I just didn’t fancy lugging that beast around a football pitch. Even with the 55-200mm lens the fuji is so much easier to carry around. A few of the shots below are cropped in quite a lot, you can’t obviously do this to the same extent as on the D800, but there is enough detail for some very acceptable shots. Overall I was very impressed and enjoyed the experience. If someone was paying me to get the shots I’d dig out the D800 of course, but the fuji was more than capable for the purpose I needed it for in this case and I’ll probably take it again just to get more practice with the camera. Shots below.
