Armed with these two cameras and a promise that the band would pick up my beer tab, I ventured out to the Turks pub in Reading on Friday night. I was interested in seeing how the D800 stacked up against the Fuji XE-1 for this particular type of event photography. For the most part I was using 2 lens that on paper are very similar, the 35mm 1.4 on the fuji, which equates roughly to the 50mm 1.8 I was using on the D800.
In terms of focussing, the D800 wins, but not by as much as I thought, I had little difficulty focussing with the fuji and the 35mm 1.4. In terms of image quality, they were pretty close too, although obviously the noise is way more obvious on the images taken by the D800 as its twice the resolution of the fuji. Anyway here are a few D800 images first.
Bear in mind, I’m a complete noob with the D800 whereas I’m getting quite competent with the fuji. Anyway, here are the shots from the fuji.
My conclusion..they both did great, but given that these images are for web use, I’d happily take just the fuji next time, that 35mm 1.4 is just an incredible lens and so much fun to use.
